How to Become an Effective Coach
Coaching is a unique method
for developing people that contributes greatly to the achievement of
organizational goals. At this fast-paced workshop, participants will acquire
the skills, confidence, and tools they need to become excellent coaches.
This workshop ensures the
transfer of coaching skills and engages participants in a reflection on how
Coaching fits into the overall business of the organization, both for its
short-term needs (flexible internal resourcing) and long-term needs (succession
planning. Program objectives are to:

DAY 1
COACHING

1 What is coaching and why coach?
Upon

5 Problem-Solving Skills Questionnaire
The
PSSQ questionnaire was developed specifically for use in the interpersonal
skills training program. It allows you to compare your previous understanding
of a coaching conversation with that you will have learned during this
workshop.
Part
6 Practice Interaction
You
will participate in an activity in which you and your colleagues will practice
the coaching process. In preparation for it, you will develop a situation or
scenario that you and your partner in the exercise can use.
Videotaping and replay typically are
used to enhance the learnings from this practice
interaction.
An observation questionnaire is used
to give and get feedback also.

7 Discussion of Key Learnings
We
will discuss the key learnings and insight’s from today’s session and discuss
ways in which you might begin to use today’s learnings on the job.
DAY 2
COACHING THROUGH CONFRONTATIONAL SKILLS
Part
1 What are Confrontational Skills in
Coaching?
Before
discussing the process itself, it is wise to make the difference between
confrontation and criticism and to describe the ways in which confrontation can
be made more difficult than it need to be.
Part
2 How do I Confront?
In
this section, we’ll examine the process similarities and process differences
with the coaching process and coaching through confrontational skills.
Part
3 Skills Practice
We’ll
practice writing and presenting confronting statements as well as Managing
Resistance and Using reactions to develop information.
Part
4 Coaching process example
This
section is intended to help transfer the learning about the
confrontation-coaching function to on-the-job application. The examples
illustrate the goals, stages, and skills of confronting.
Part
5 Practice Interaction
This
activity, where you are being video-taped, will help you integrate the
knowledge of the morning. You will serve once in the function of a person being
confronted or presented with a request or idea and once in the function of a
manager or supervisor doing the confronting or presenting.
You will see yourself after and
gives each other feedback, with an observation questionnaire.

the day.
